SOUTHLAND TITLES
The championships of the Southland Table Tennis Association were continued on Thursday evening when the mixed doubles championships were played, together with a mixed doubles handicap and men’s and women’s singles handicap. All the finals are to be played tonight and at the conclusion of the matches the prizes won during the tournament will be presented by Mr A. Wachner. The results of the semi-finals were as follows:— Mixed Doubles.—Hamilton and Miss McGrath beat Breayley and Miss Henderson 21-18, 8-21, 21-19; Robson and Mrs Croad beat Sharman and Miss Stevens 13-21, 2113. 21-18.
Mixed Doubles Handicap.—Sharman and Miss J. Stevens (scr) beat Loudon and Mrs S. Robson (plus 4) 31-26; H. Ferns and Miss S. Ferns (plus 17) beat Young and Mrs Hind (plus 14) 31-29. Men’s Singles Handicap.—Hughes (minus 1) beat Coupe (minus 1 Hamilton (minus 15) beat J. Ferns (plus 10) 32-30. Women’s Singles Handicap.—Miss J. Stevens (plus 1) beat Miss D. Stott (minus 12) 31-29; Miss N. Townsend (minus 3) beat Miss M. Waddick (minus 7) 31-28. The order of matches for the finals tonight will be: Hamilton v. Hughes, Miss Henderson v. Miss Crowe, Robson v. Mainwaring, Breayley v. Sharman, Miss Stevens v. Miss Townsend, Hamilton v. Sharman, Misses Ferns and Henderson v. Misses Stevens and Stott, Robson and Loudon v. Breayley and Ferguson, Sharman and Miss Stevens v. H. Fems and Miss S. Ferns; Hamilton and Miss McGrath v. Robson and Mrs Croad; final of men’s singles, final of women’s singles.
