PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE
CHRISTMAS PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS Country sub-committees are requested to advise the secretary about the amount of wool needed monthly. Information has been received from Wellington that scarves are urgently required at headquarters. The Christmas parcels will be completed next week. Several country committees have assisted at the depot during the past week. SUB-COMMITTEE NOTES Georgetown: The monthly meeting of this committee will be held in the Sunday School Hall on September 8, at 7.30 o’clock.
Gladstone: The sewing bee of the Lady Galway Guild will resume its meetings on Friday, September 12. The monthly meeting of this committee will be held on Monday, September 15. North Invercargill: A pleasant afternoon was spent on Monday, September 1, by those attending the relations afternoon in the Sunday School Hall. South Invercargill B: The committee is still collecting articles for the parcel of garments for the Lady Galway Guild and members will be pleased to accept any garments suitable. This parcel will be made up at the next meeting of the committee on October 1. Avenal: The August collection totalled £4O/14/-. The committee wishes to thank all those who have given so
regularly. Many letters of appreciation have been received from Egypt from men who have received parcels from this district. A case of patchwork quilts has been completed recently by the sewing circle of the Lady Galway Guild and the circle is now working on garments for air raid victims. The gift of a vase from Mrs D. Cuth- ; bertson to be sold for patriotic funds is ! acknowledged with thanks. East Invercargill: The monthly house to house collection was £l6/1/-. The following gifts are acknowledged with thanks: Mrs Dunlop, £1; Mrs Barnes, 10/-; Mrs Henderson, 8/-. A meeting of this committee will be held in the Sylvan Bank Sunday School Hall on Monday, September 8, at 2.30 o’clock. Members are asked to be present. The committee is making a special appeal for Christmas parcels and intends holding a bring-and-buy sale. The date and place of this sale will be decided later. The committee is in need of helpers—is not there someone in the district sufficiently interested in our soldiers to offer assistance in this work? Central: The August collections amounted to £34/6/7. This committee extends thanks to all who contributed. The relations afternoon will be held in St. Paul’s vestry room on Monday, September 8, at 2.45 o’clock. South Invercargill A: The donation from Mrs Matheson, Princes street, of one balaclava and two pairs of mittens, and of .three scarves from Mrs Holmes, Earn street, are acknowledged with thanks. Two pairs of mittens, two balaclavas and seven scarves have been handed in at the depot. This committee was on duty at the depot during the past week.
