NEW ZEALANDERS IN TRAINING AS OFFICERS FOR THE INDIAN ARMY.—Two Invercargill soldiers, N. A. Derbie and F. S. McKenzie, are included in this group of New Zealand officer-cadets who were trained at Belgaum, India. The names of the men who comprise the New Zealand Platoon at the school are: Back row— D. A. Buchanan, W. E. Ruff, I. T. Houston, D. S. Thomas, F. S. McKenzie, R. L. Walton, J. A. Wilson; middle row—N. A. Derbie, A. G. V. Woodward, P. S. M. Peacock, Captain H. R. C. Pettigrew (C. O.), W. H. Paterson, M. N. Liddle, G. T. Rapley; in front-P. A. E. Hampton, B. K. Kirkcaldie, G. R. Marriott. W. E. Ruff, formerly of Invercargill, was a member of the Southland Rugby team which won the Ranfurly Shield from Otago at Dunedin in 1937.
