DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 25. The first games in the 1941 New Zealand amateur billiards championship ■were played today. In the afternoon game V. Choat (Christchurch) beat W. i McMillan (Wellington champion) by [ 667 to 351. Choat reached the first I 100 with a 25 lead, which he further extended at 200. Thereafter he had the game in safe keeping. The breaks were not large, but consistent. They included: Choat. 60. 42, 32. 35, 47, 46; I McMillan, 49, 43, 33. R. Carrick (Auckland) beat A. E. Redmond (Wellington) by 666 to 400 before a capacity house tonight. Carrick was playing brilliantly. With some early breaks he obtained a definite lead and was able to reverse the decision i Redmond got over him last year. Redmond could make little headway against the play of Carrick, though occasionally he got them rolling nicely on hazard play. Carrick held a2l lead at the first 100, a 90 lead at 200, 152 at 300, 201 at 400, 206 at 500 and 266 at 666. Carrick’s average was 15. His best I breaks were 114, 31, 76, 31, 95, 56, 40. (Redmond’s best were 34, 33, 74, 37.
