OTAGO MATCH AT DUNEDIN
OFFICIALS PLEASED WITH SOUTHLAND TEAM
Satisfaction with the play of the Southland Rugby team in the return match against Otago at Dunedin on Saturday was expressed by Mr H. S. Strang, manager of the team, at the meeting of the Southland Rugby .Union last night. “I was very pleased with the showing of the team,” he said. “It was a bit unlucky on the day.” Mr Strang praised the play of the forwards. They got plenty of ball for their backs, he said, and had the backs been a first-class set Southland would probably have won the game comfortably. He said he thought the backs played fairly well for young players, and he was surprised to read comment that the backs had played poorly.. It was a fairly general consensus of opinion that had Southland won by three or six points that result would have just about summed up the trend of the play. Otago also played well and took advantage of its opportunities. Mr Strang added that the hospitality extended to the team and the Southland officials was as good as ever. The game was a good one and the social side of the visit highly enjoyable. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to the Otago Rugby Union. Several games were arranged for Saturday. It was decided to play a return match between junior representative teams from Eastern and Town, the game to be played at Rugby Park at 2.30. The usual club admission prices will be charged.
