PATRIOTIC FUNCTION AT WAKAPATU

A social and dance organized by the Wakapatu Patriotic Committee for the purpose of helping the patriotic funds was held in the school. The funds will benefit to the extent of a few pounds. Dancing and items by the school children made up the first half of the P£°~ gramme, the items by the children being very much appreciated. After supper the opportunity was taken to extend a welcome home to Private Neilson, who has returned from service in Greece and elsewhere. In presenting Private Neilson with a gift from the people of the district the chairman, Mr S. Pollard, extended the best wishes of the district to him and hoped he would soon be fully recovered from the effects of the war and be able again to take his share in the activities of the district. . Songs were given by Mrs Portnick, Misses A and C. Dallas, E. Cleaver, F. Belsham and L. Pollard, Mr J. Wixon and Master R. Pearce, and action songs by Mrs Portnick and Misses Belsham, Cleaver and Dallas. A picture was won by Mrs Pearce, 251 b of oatmeal by Mr H Davis. Mr G. Bennett provided the music for the dance and Mr Stuck was master of ceremonies.
