COFFIN PLACED IN CATHEDRAL

BLASTING OPERATIONS AT BASTION POINT

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 31. To ensure that the mortal remains of the late Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, the former Prime Minister, should not be disturbed by rock-blasting operations at Bastion Point, Orakei, necessitated by the formation of a permanent memorial, the coffin, which was entombed in an old-time ammunition vault, has been removed to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It will rest in the church until the tomb on Bastion Point has been completed. The casket was removed to the cathedral in the quietest manner under the supervision of the Department of Internal Affairs and was received by the cathedral administrator. It was placed in a tiny sacristy on the north side of the sanctuary. The sacristy was then sealed.
