CONTROL OF RABBITS

DEPUTATION MEETS MINISTER Reference to the work being done in Southland in the extermination of rabbits was made when a deputation from the Orepuki Rabbit Board met the Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) in Invercargill yesterday. The deputation asked the Minister to continue the subsidy for a number of men to be employed by the Rabbit Board. The board had made big inroads into the rabbits, said Mr R. Wilson, and with a little assistance from the Government a lot more could be achieved. The board operated over 54,000 acres of the roughest country in the Western District. The farmers appreciated the assistance given by the Government and this was shown by the fact that they were agreeable to the rate being raised from 5d to 6d, said Mr R. W. Pickering. Mr Webb in his reply said that the Government appreciated the work done by the board and assured the deputation that he would recommend the request.
