JAPANESE CRITICISM OF THAILAND
RADIO ATTACKS BEGUN FORCES NOW IN POSSESSION OF CAMRANH BAY (United Press Association —Telegraph Copyright) (Rec. 1.10 a.m.) LONDON, July 29. Japan has begun radio attacks against Thailand similar to those she launched against Indo-China before she demanded the use of bases in that territory. It is alleged in Tokyo that British troops are moving towards the Thai frontier and that British warships are patrolling off the coast. Japanese forces today took possession of Camranh Bay, an important base in Southern Indo-China. It is stated that 40,000 Japanese troops will be stationed in Southern Indo-China, in addition to those already in the north part of the country. In Vichy today the VicePremier, Admiral Jean Darlan, signed the formal agreement handing over to Japan bases in Indo-China. The Associated Press of America says that President Roosevelt has returned to Washington from his Hyde Park home. He will discuss the position in the Far East with Congressional leaders and the heads of the fighting services and a statement on any further steps to be taken by America may be made later. The State Department announced that Japanese ships may enter United States ports without fear of detention.
