NAZIS’ NEXT VICTIM
SECRET DOCUMENTS SEIZED SURPRISE ATTACK ON TURKEY LONDON, July 27. Documents captured by the Russians disclose that Germany is secretly preparing for a surprise attack against Turkey. This was announced by M. Lozovsky, chief of the Soviet Information Bureau. Among the documents from the 52nd German Chemical Regiment was a file of secret maps and graphs of the European part of Turkey and the Straits. The maps and charts indicated the military objectives of Turkey, such as airfields, arsenals, metallurgical works, port installations. Exact data was
given of the distribution, of Turkish troops, rolling stock and the places most vulnerable to sea landings and attacks by motorized troops were indicated. All documents were issued by the German General Staff with instructions that they were to be used only for service needs. The reports that Germany intends to attack Turkey have annoyed Turkish official circles, but have aroused new apprehension among foreign diplomats, says the Ankara correspondent, of The New York Times. Turkish military circles consider that the number of troops and the amount of material at present on the Bulgarian frontier are insufficient for any major action against Turkey. However, travellers from Bulgaria reported greatly increased military activity there.
