BRITISH PURCHASE OF DOMINION BUTTER

CANBERRA, July 10. The Minister of Commerce, Sir Earle Page, said he expected Australian butter purchased by Britain for the 19412 season to be about 60 per cent, of the amount taken last year. Britain had named the total she was prepared to buy from both Australia, and New Zealand and negotiations were now proceeding between these two Governments about how the quantity should be allocated.

It was expected that the contract prices for butter would be the same as last year. Britain would purchase 40,000 tons of cheese for 1941-2, double the quantity of last year. The prices had yet to be confirmed but it was believed they would be substantially above last year’s f.o.b. contract prices.
