WOODLANDS

AIRMAN HONOURED A complimentary social and dance was tendered to Sergeant Pilot F. A. Piercy in the Woodlands Public Hall. He was piped into the hall by Mr S. J. Morrison. Items were given as follows: Instrumental solo. Mr L. Walker; song, Mrs Bennett (Glenheim); Highland dancing, Valmai Warren (Kennington); song, Miss M. Fahy; song, Mrs McCaughan; song, Miss J. Hesselin; instrumental items, Mr K. Maxwell (Longbush); song, Misses Edwyna and Ethel Hargest (Kennington). On behalf of the residents of the district Mrs Tresidder presented Sergeant Pilot < Piercy with a wristlet watch and wished him Godspeed and a safe return. Miss E. Briggs on behalf of the Women’s Patriotic Committee ask&l the guest to accept a parcel of woollen goods. Other speakers were Captain W. Bell (Invercargill) and the Rev. G. E. Dallard.

The music for the dance was supplied by A. Yeo’s orchestra Mr J. Middlemiss was master of ceremonies.
