HEAVY RAID ON
RUHR
(Rec. 2.10 a.m.) LONDON, June 12. A big force of British bombers heavily raided the Ruhr last night. Dusseldorf, which was one of the principal targets, received a severe pounding.
CRITICISM OF LACK OF UNIFIED COMMAND WASHINGTON, June 12. “The British defeats in the Mediterranean were caused by lack of unified command,” said the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, at a meeting of represntatives of the aircraft industry. He added that lack of unity was appalling and resulted in the defeat in Crete. Colonel Knox’s remarks were made in reply to suggestions that the United States should form a separate air force command. He reiterated his belief that the war would be decided by naval power. Referring to military control of the Inglewood plant, Colonel Knox said: “What the Government has done there presents no challenge to collective bargaining or union activity, but it does challenge those who use those things as a cloak to attack American freedom
and liberty. From now on subversive and communistic elements so acting will be proceeded against as enemies of the country.”
