SALUTING THE FLAG

(Special) WELLINGTON, June 12. A suggestion that a by-law requiring teachers and children alike to salute the Union Jack should be validated by legislation was made to the Minister of Education, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Nat., Waitomo) in the House of Representatives today. The recent decision of the teachers’ court of appeal in the case of a teacher at Waikino that the Education Board’s by-law providing for the saluting of the flag was ultra vires was quoted by Mr Broadfoot.
