STORMY WEATHER
FALLS OF SNOW IN SOME DISTRICTS
Another cold snap was experienced in most parts of the province yesterday and heavy showers of rain and hail, and in some cases light falls of snow, made the day most unpleasant. Conditions were miserable in Invercargill. A biting south-westerly wind was often accompanied by sharp showers of rain and hail. There was a light fall of snow about 8 o’clock last night and more snow fell at intervals during the evening, although it was not sufficiently heavy to lie. About half an inch of snow fell at Gore last night and snow was still falling late in the evening. Falls were also reported in most parts of Eastern Southland. There was a slight fall of snow at Mossburn last night. The weather at Bluff yesterday was very cold, and heavy showers of rain and hail fell almost without cessation throughout the day. Heavy seas were running even in the harbour, and at high water clouds of spray were thrown across the western approach to the wharf. No work has been possible on the wharves since late on Wednesday afternoon.
