Awards For Scientific Work (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 29. The Hector memorial medal and prize for scientific work of great merit was awarded by the Royal Society of New Zealand to Dr H. J. Finlay, of Wellington, for original researches on mollusca and for aminifera. The Hutton memorial medal for research in New Zealand zoology, botany or geology was awarded to Dr H. H. Allan, of Wellington, for botanical research. Dr R. A. Falla, director of the Canterbury Museum, was elected a Fellow of the Society. Dr D. Jenness, born and educated in Wellington, who has a New Zealand honorary doctorate in literature for his anthropological publications, was elected an honorary member. Dr Jenness’s principal work has been among Eskimos. The society elected the following officers: President, Mr G. Archey, Auckland; vice-president, Dr H. H. Allan, Wellington; honorary treasurer, Mr M. A. Elliott, Manawatu; honorary editor. Dr J. Marwick, Wellington; honorary librarian, Professor W. P. Evans, Wellington; co-opted member, Dr P. Marshall, Wellington; managers of trust accounts, Messrs M. A. Elliott and B. C. Aston; representative on the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, Dr W. R. B. Oliver; representatives on the Observatories Committee. Professor D. C. H. Florence and Professor P. W. Burbidge; representative on the Great Barrier Reef Committee, Dr W. R. B. Oliver; Hector Award Committee, the Rev. Dr J. E. Holloway, Professor H. B. Kirk and Dr W. R. B. Oliver; library committee, Professor W. P. Evans, Professor C. A. Cotton and Dr H. H. Allan; fellowship committee, Professor W. P. Evans, Mr G. Archey, Professor H. W. Segar, Dr H. H. Allan and Dr J. Marwick; wild life committee, Dr W. R. B. Oliver, Dr H. H. Allan, Mr G. Archey, Mr E. F. Stead, Dr R. A. Falla, Mr L. E. Richdale and Dr J. E. Holloway.
