Squally And Showery
(Special) WELLINGTON, May 18. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: — Strong south-westerly winds. The
weather cold, squally and showery, with hail on the coast; seas rough.
Following is the Dominion forecast: — The Weather becoming cold, changeable and showery generally. Hail probable in places and snow on the ranges of the South Island. Winds.—A change to strong and squally south-westerly to southerly winds soon advancing from the south.
Seas.—New Zealand waters moderate north of East Cape; elsewhere rough and becoming very rough in places. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-westerly winds, strong in the south with rough seas; moderate to fresh in the north with moderate seas.
The weather in Invercargill during the week-end was stormy. Rain started or. Saturday afternoon and continued intermittently yesterday, the southwesterly wind reaching gale force at times. Several falls of hail occurred yesterday and there was a slight fall of snow. At 1 o’clock this morning heavy' rain was falling and a cold southwesterly wind was blowing.
