Lady Hunt is the guest of her daugh-ter-in-law, Mrs W. E. Hunt, Waitoru Downs Station.
Mrs J. A. MacDonald, Dunedin, arrived yesterday to visit her mother, Mrs O. W. H. Strettell, Ythan street. The Women’s Committee of the National Party entertained Mrs S. G. Holland, of Christchurch, at tea in the Tudor Lounge yesterday morning. Mrs Knox Gilmer is a candidate for the Wellington City Council and Hospital Board in the forthcoming elections. Mrs Gilmer visited Invercargill in February to form a branch of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary. Mrs S. G. Holland, who is visiting Invercargill with the Leader of the Opposition, has been the guest of Mrs J. Hargest, Rakauhauka, and is now staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs Holland leave on their return to the north tomorrow.
Mr and Mrs T. J. Bailey, of Elies Road, gave a party in the Mitchell street Hall to celebrate the twentyfirst birthday of their daughter, Phyllis The evening was spent in dancing and
games and Mr Finlay Kidd acted as master of ceremonies. Mr B. Canning gave a tap dance, accompanied by Mr R. Wilson. A toast to the guest of honour was proposed by Mr R. Dyson and Miss Bailey replied. Mr Bailey presented a gold key to his daughter.
GOLDEN WEDDING
MK AND MRS G. DICKSON HONOURED
The family of Mr and Mrs George Dickson gave their parents a reception in Fleck’s Hall, Riverton, to celebrate their golden wedding. Mrs Dickson wore a wine-coloured frock with a full length lace coat of the same shade, and a shoulder spray of orange blossom which she wore at her wedding 50 years ago. As she entered the hall Mrs Dickson was presented with a bouquet of golden roses and Iceland poppies, by her great granddaughter, Patricia McNeil.
When the guests were assembled Mr and Mrs Dickson were piped into the hall by Pipe-Major C. C. Selby and were welcomed by the chairman, Mr I. H. Mathieson. .
On behalf of the Dickson family, Mr G. L. Dickson extended a welcome to all present and expressed pleasure at seeing so many old friends of his mothei' and father. On behalf of the family he asked his mother and father to accept two fireside chairs. Mr Dickson replied. Items were given by the grandchildren as follows:—Mrs Lindo McNeil and Mrs Duncan Stevens (piano and mandolin), Miss Runa Scott and Miss Evelyn Cloughley (Irish Jig); Master Lambert Scott (violin solo). Master George Cloughley (mouth organ solo), Master Alex Cloughley (mouth organ solo), Master Murray Lawrence (mouth organ solo), Miss Beatrice Dickson (Highland Fling), Master Elgar Dickson (piano solo), Master Douglas Dickson (bagpipe selection). Other items were, violin solo, Mr G. Dickson; accordion solo, Mr G. Dickson (Nightcaps); song, Mrs Paton; bagpipe selection, Mr J. Dickson; song, Mr J. C. Dickson; bagpipe selection, Major C. C. Selby; dulcimer and violin selection, Messrs George and Gavin Dickson; Scottish violin selection, Messrs G. Dickson and F. Aitken and Mrs A. Scott and L. Dickson.
DIARY OF MEETINGS
Women supporters of the National Party are invited to meet Mrs S. G. Holland, wife of the Leader of the Opposition, at the Tudor Lounge at 3 o’clock this afternoon. The annual meeting of the Invercargill branch of the National Council of Women will take place tomorrow at 2.45 p.m. in the Women’s Club.
