LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

FAT COWS SHOW AN IMPROVEMENT

A substantial drop in sheep values was the feature of the weekly sale of stock at the Lorneville yards yesterday. Fat cows were in demand and values improved by about £1 a head. A bullock sold on behalf of patriotic funds by Mr H. G. Pinckney realized £9/10/-. FAT SHEEP The yarding of fat sheep was an extra large one, the majority of the offering being of good quality. Wethers were in short supply. For freezing ewes export buyers operated moderately and values were in keeping with last week’s rates. Heavyweight ewes were in steady demand and sold at a reduction of about 3/6 a head on last week. Wethers also eased about 1/6 a head. Good quality medium-weight wethers brought from 25/6 to 26/9; medium-weights from 24/- to 25/-; unfinished from 21/- to 23/-; prime young ewes sold'at up to 16/-; prime heavyweights 11/6 to 12/6; medium 9/- to 10/-; inferior down, to 7/-. STORE CATTLE There was a small yarding and the demand was not so good as at the sale of the previous week. The yarding was smaller than that of last week, the bulk consisting of aged ewes; there were no young sheep forward. Sound-mouthed ewes brought from 15/- to 17/-; good one-year ewes from 12/- to 14/-; best f.m. ewes up to 11/-; medium sorts 7/- to 9/-; culls down to 3/-.
