RETURNED SOLDIERS
A decision that it be a recommendation to the incoming executive that efforts be made to have collections taken up at all Anzac Day services and that after payment of expenses the balance be forwarded to the association for the hospital comforts fund or other relief purposes was made at a meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association. A vote of condolence with Mrs Ritchie (Riversdale) in the recent death of her husband was carried in the usual manner. One new member was elected to the association. The secretary reported that the financial membership for the new year, which began on April 1, was 121. The general secretary, Wellington, forwarded the financial membership ladder for all New Zealand associations as at March 31. It showed that Gore occupied 10th position with 702 members. The total Dominion membership was 38,167, compared with 32,401 last year. Mr William Christie (Waikaia) forwarded £B/4/4, the proceeds of the Anzac Day collection in that entre. It was reported by the treasurer (Mr Shelton) that the Anzac Day collection at Gore amounted to £39/0/6, which was easily a record. ~ It was decided to give £o/3/- to the Gore Plunket Society for its annual May appeal. Members expressed great satisfaction at the large attendance at the Anzac Day service. The secretary was instructed to write thanking all who had assisted.
