YOUNG MARRIED WOMAN KILLED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 29. Struck by a train travelling from Wellington to Waterloo just north of White’s line ramp about 9.30 a.m. today, a young Hutt Valley woman was killed. She was Mrs Jean Gilligan, aged 25. The train was not travelling fast as it came round the bend, when the driver saw Mrs Gilligan standing on the permanent way. He sounded the whistle, but she did not turn till the engine was only four or five yards from her. Then she half turned, but was struck by the engine. Her husband is serving with the forces overseas.
FRACTURE OF NOSE
While playing in a football match at the Gore hostel grounds, B. Macale, a pupil of the Gore High School, and son of Mr and Mrs A. Macale, of Kaiwera, suffered a fracture of the nose. He was admitted to the Gore Public Hospital. His condition is reported to be satisfactory.
INJURIES TO HEAD
Mihaka Manauanui, aged 21, a labourer, fell on Sunday and received injuries to his head. He was admitted to the Southland hospital, where his condition last night was reported to be serious.
FRACTURED LEG AND ARM
A fractured left leg and right arm and abrasions to the face were suffered by James Ross, aged nine, of Cemetery road, yesterday, when he was knocked down by a motor-car. He was admitted to the Southland Hospital, where his condition last night was reported to be fair.
