SHOOTING SEASON

PROSPECTS ARE BRIGHT

The prospects for the duck-shooting season, which opens on Saturday, are bright. At present there is a shortage of cartridges in Invercargill, but further supplies are expected within a day or two. Only New Zealand-made cartridges are now available and the factory at Auckland has been working at full pressure since the outbreak of war and only a small staff has been available for making 12 gauge shot shells. It is reported that ducks are very plentiful in some parts of the province and that their numbers have undoubtedly increased through the hawk-shooting campaign instituted by the Southland Acclimatization Society, and the trapping of eels in all breeding lagoons.
