BREAD DISTRIBUTION
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 26. Discussing the bread-making industry today, the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said he was keeping in very close touch with developments and with the New Zealand Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association. At the request of the industry itself, and in order to permit the industry so to organize itself as to contribute its maximum to the war effort in the way of reduction of petrol consumption and in other directions, the bread-making industry had been brought under the control of the War Emergency Regulations. _ Since that control came into operation, certain units had been amalgamated and similar steps were now being taken with others to avoid overlapping in delivery. The number of bakers making bread in the Dominion was now 707. “Action is being taken in some centres towards bringing delivery into a more unified form by the promotion of cooperative delivery companies,” said Mr Sullivan. “When' these negotiations are completed the plan envisaged will give .a greater degree of efficiency in bread distribution.”
