RINKS TOURNAMENT AT GORE
The annual one-day rinks tournament of the Hokonui Bowling Club will be held on the Gore and Hokdnui greens on Saturday. Some strong rinks have entered, including the winners of all the previous Hokonui tournaments, and some interesting play is expected. Play will begin at 8 a.m., and each game will be allotted one hour and three-quarters. The post-section play will take place on the Hokonui green from 5 p.m. onwards. The umpires for the day will be Messrs D. F. Tait and J. Ritchie. The draw is announced as follows:— HOKONUI GREEN Section A First round (8 a.m. to 9.45 a.m.): McComish (Southland) v. McNamare (Balclutha); Crawford (Hokonui) v. Mackie (Kaitangata); Macpherson (James Macpherson) v. Wilkinson (Cromwell). Second round: Mackie v. Wilkinson; McNamare v. Macpherson; Crawford v. McComish. Third round: Crawford v. Macpherson; McNamara v. Wilkinson; McComish v. Mackie. Fourth round: McComish y. Wilkinson; Mackie v. Macpherson; Crawford v. McNamara. GOLF QUEEN’S PARK LADIES’ CLUB “Twenty-one new members were admitted during the season and 24 resignations were received. Several nonplaying members have allowed their membership to lapse, leaving a total membership of 127,” states the annual report of the Queen’s Park Ladies’ Golf Club which was presented at the annual meeting yesterday. The Stead Cup competition was well supported, Mrs G. E. Glennie, a member of the club, being the winner. The runner-up was Miss C. Smith, of the Invercargill Club. “Our A grade championship was won by Mrs G. E. Glennie, with Mrs N. Carter runner-up,” says the report. “The B grade championship was won by Mrs L. Larcombe, with Mrs L. Barrett as runner-up and the B grade consolation was won by Mrs W. Kissel!, with Mrs A. Stuart as runner-up. The C grade competition was won by Miss E. Marshall.”
The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs S. C. K. Smith; vicepresidents, Mrs J. F. Miller and Mrs F. H. Hughes; secretary and treasurer, Mrs E. J. Morgan; captain, Mrs N. Carter; deputy-captain, Mrs W. H. Gregory; committee, Mrs J. E. Salisbury, Mrs A. G. Gifford, Mrs J. F. Field and Mrs S. Adamson. A match over six holes beginning at I. p.m. was played before the meeting, the winners being: Senior, Mrs T. J. Dwyer; junior, Mrs J. Watt. At the beginning of the meeting the members stood in silence as a mark of respect to Mrs W. G. Tait, a late member. The season will open on Tuesday, March 11, at 1.15 p.m. when a Canadian foursomes match will be played. Intending players are asked to ring the captain. INVERCARGILL LADIES’ CLUB Following is the draw for the L.G.U. match to be played at Otatara tomorrow, at 1.15 p.m. The official opening will take place after the match: First tee: Mrs J. D.
