FREEZING WORKS PICNIC

Held at Riverton in fine weather the Ocean Beach Freezing Works annual picnic proved a successful function. The main race on the sports programme was the Sheffield. This was won by E. Boyle and entitles him to the cup given by Sir Robert Anderson and the slaughterhouse assistants department, which he represents, to the Bluff Publicans’ Shield. FAREWELL TO FATHER McKAY Evidence of the esteem and reverence in which he had been held in Bluff during his 14 years of work in the parish, was accorded Father McKay by the large gathering of his parishioners and friends which assembled at the Athenaeum Hall on the occasion of a farewell function held in his honour. In making a presentation of two upholstered easy chairs, Mr N. W. McGorlick expressed the general regret that was felt at the transfer of their guest of honour to Wyndham. His quiet and kindly disposition would be missed by all sections of the community. Mr J. Curran also spoke. In reply Father McKay expressed regret at leaving, as he had made many close friends during his happy sojourn in the parish. During the evening a welcome was extended to Father Gavin, who replied. Items were given by the Bluff Maori Party, Misses Johanna Findlay, K. Bradshaw, B. Breayley, A. Curran, Messrs A. West and K. Curran.
