CHEAPER POWER CHARGES
REDUCED DOMESTIC RATES SAVING OF 15/- A YEAR A reduction in electricity charges was approved by the City Council last night, to come into operation from the meter readings beginning next month. The reduction in the charges for domestic supply will bring the Id a unit rate into operation after 20 units a month have been consumed, instead of 30 units as at present. For persons using more than 30 units every month there will be a saving of 15/- a year. The Trading Committee reported that as a result of certain financial adjustments made possible by the Tramways Depreciation Fund Empowering Bill, the council was able to pass on to consumers reductions in electricity charges which would involve approximately £4OOO a year. The committee had taken particular care to see that the smaller consumers participated in these benefits. The committee recommended that as from the meter readings beginning in April next, the charges for domestic supply be altered so that the first rate of 2'.d a unit for 30 units a month will be reduced to 20 units a month. The recommendation was adopted. Cr R. T. Parsons said the committee would go into the question of another reduction again later.
