BOXING ASSOCIATION FINED

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 24. Following an inquiry into the professional boxing contest at Palmerston North on December 26 between Maurice Strickland and Alabama Kid, the New Zealand Boxing Council has imposed a fine of £5 on the Manawatu Boxing Association and censured the association for giving the boxers a guarantee instead of observing the rule which stipulates that, the contestants shall divide the purse on the basis of 60 per cent, to the winner and 40 per cent, to the loser. The council also revoked the licence of Alabama Kid for a breach of his contract with the Manawatu association. The boxer was represented by a solicitor at the meeting of the council which imposed the penalty.
