The Hon. Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, returned to Invercargill by yesterday afternoon’s express from Dunedin.
The Hon. Mr Justice Kennedy arrived in Invercargill by yesterday afternoon’s express. He will preside at the quarterly session of the Supreme Court today. Mr A. I. Johns, general manager of the New Zealand Insurance Co., Ltd., arrived in Invercargill yesterday on a short business visit.
Mr H. E. Combs, M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, will visit Invercargill at the end of the present week. Mr Combs, who was formerly the general secretary of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, will be the guest of the Invercargill Post Office employees at a social evening on Friday. Mr D. W. Stalker will leave by the express this morning for Wellington, where he will attend a meeting of the National Council of the Federation of Labour. He will return in about a week. Mr W. F. Swift, manager of the Invercargill branch of the Government Tourist Bureau, returned to Invercargill yesterday after a visit to Milford Sound. Mr T. S. Tancred, F.R.G.S., South Kensington, London, has arrived at Auckland, accompanied by Mrs Tancred. He will leave shortly for Melbourne. Mr G. H. Stubbs, of the inspectorial staff of the Wellington Education Board, has been appointed senior inspector of Native schools. Mr W. O’Connor, native schools inspector, has been appointed to the vacancy. Dr lan Fraser, a graduate of the Otago University, who was practising at Guernsey up to the time the island was taken by the Germans, is now a major in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Mr G. A. Hansen, who contested the Pahiatua seat at the last general elections in the interests of Labour, has again been chosen as Labour's candidate for Pahiatua at the next elections. —Dannevirke Press Association.
