WELLINGTON

An interesting item on Saturday’s cricket programme was the first appearance this season of an Army team in action in Wellington. The Wellington eleven scored 172 for eight wickets (Riddolls 38 not out, Burton 36. Bush 31, Parsloe 28). The Army team at stumps had 118 on for the loss of five wickets (Gwilliam 40 retired, Robertson 30). Bowling fox - Army Cleverley took two fox - 1, Potter three for 45, and Wiles three for 17. For Wellington Buchan took two fox - 24, Riddolls one fox - 28, Parsloe one fox - 25, and Richardson one fox - 14.

Though conditions were ideal the only team to make a decent score in the seniox - championship was University, which ran up 335 (P. D. Wilson 156, Paetz 84) against Wellington College Old Boys 96 for two wickets (Alexander - 38 not out, Burnette 30 not out).

Karori 147 (Duffy 33) and 24 for three wickets met Wellington 70. Bowling fox - Karori Dickinson, the onetime Otago and New Zealand speed bowler, took six fox - 25. Midland 156 (Hepburn 38, Buddle 22) met Hutt 105 for six wickets (Wall 32). Bowling for Hutt, C. Muir took seven fox - 44. For Midland O’Neill took five fox - 49.
