MAJESTIC

“South of Samoa,” which is now showing . at the Majestic Theatre, today, is more spectacular in its splendour and more thrilling and exciting in its adventure than “Hurricane.” It presents in life-like technicolour all the tropical beauty and romance of the South Sea Islands, but it is not on its expected beauties that it depends for its success. The most striking thing about the film is the realism with which a tropical typhoon is depicted, and the closing scenes are ones

of breathtaking excitement. Dorothy Lamour plays the part of a child castaway grown into womanhood on an island of tropical beauty. Her only companion is an ape, with whose assistance she has built herself a home safe against storms and floods, A pearlseeking expedition equipped with a submarine top make its work more efficient, is brought to the island through a shortage of fuel, and a dissolute and unwilling member of its crew, Robert Preston, is found lying on the beach in a drunken stupor by Dorothy Lamour. The associate feature, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love Baby,” is taken from, the old-time favourite song by the same name. It is a comedy musical

featuring Peggy Moran, Johnny Downes Gertrude Michael, Warren Hymer and John Sutton. Chapter 8 of the Oriental serial, “The Drums of Fu Manchu,” and the latest issue of the Cinesound News will also be seen. This is a particularly well-balanced programme and patrons are advised to reserve at H. and J. Smith’s department store, Rice’s Majestic sweet shop or at the Majestic Theatre.
