Colonel Murray To Take Charge (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 15. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, announces that Colonel D. N. M. Murray, of Auckland, has been appointed officer commanding the hospital ship Maunganui, which is going into commission in the near future. Colonel Murray has been regional deputy under the National Medical Committee for the Auckland district since the beginning of the war and is responsible for the organization and control of civilian medical boards whose function is the medical examination of soldiers for enlistment and discharge. His military career began in 1900. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in the last war and had the honour of Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George conferred on him. Colonel Murray served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the South African War. His service in New Zealand dates from 1908, when in the Volunteer days he joined the New Zealand Medical Corps. In 1914 he volunteered for service abroad and jy as sent overseas as officer commanding No. 2 Field Ambulance. For service in the field he was three times mentioned in despatches and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He later had the honour of Companion ot the Order of St. Michael and St. George conferred upon him. At the conclusion of the war he was appointed AssistantDirector of Medical Services _ for the New Zealand Division. On his return to New Zealand in 1919 he acted for some months as officer commanding the military annex at Auckland Hospital.
