INVERCARGILL REGATTA

CITY CLUB’S SUCCESS The third annual regatta of the Invercargill Regatta Club was held on the Oreti river, Otatara, on Saturday. Conditions could not have been better for rowing. Considering that most of the crews were young, some good times were registered. In addition to the rowing events gun dog trials, held under the auspices of the Southland Gun Dog Club, and a clay bird shooting contest were held. Three swimming events, conducted by the Southland Swimming Centre were also held. The races were held across the river and the public had an opportunity of seeing some of Southland’s leading swimmers in action. During the afternoon a display of boat drill and life-saving was given by the Jellicoe Sea Scout troop. The rowing events were run off in good time and were the major attractions. The Southland Sports Trust Cup, which is for club competition and is awarded to the club gaining the most points, was won by the Invercargill Rowing Club with 16J points.
