SWIMMING

MEETING OF SOUTHLAND CENTRE The report on the recent New Zealand championships was presented at a meeting of the Southland Swimming Centre by the manager of the Southland team, Mr J. Kirkland. The report was adopted after considerable discussion and the centre recorded a vote of thanks to the manager, and the chaperone, Mrs T. Lynch. The Lower Hutt Swimming Club conveyed its thanks to the championship team for staying at Lower Hutt to appear at the city inauguration carnival. The following dates of fixtures were approved and swimmers were granted permission to participate:—lnvercargill regatta, Saturday, February 15; race

and polo evenings, February 27 and March 12; Otago v. Southland interprovincial fixture, Saturday, March 22, at Invercargill. The Presbyterian Bible Class Union was granted permission to conduct its first initial swimming fixture on Wednesday, March 5, subject to the programme of events being submitted to the centre for confirmation. Those present at the meeting were: Mr J. C. Kirkland (president) and Messrs F. Webb, W. T. Springford, G. Rask, L. Cockroft, F. de la Perrelle, G. Mitchell and E. J. Salisbury.
