GERMAN RAIDERS IN PACIFIC Report Not Yet Confirmed (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received February 15, 1 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 14. Exporters understood that three German raiders, which slipped out from Japanese ports, are now active in the South Pacific. Underwriters are awaiting confirmation before raising their rates. “NATIONAL INTERESTS MUST BE PLACED FIRST” (Received February 15, 1 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 14. Following the meeting of the War Cabinet today, which was attended by the defence chiefs and by Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert Brooke-Popham, the acting Prime Minister, Mr A. W. Fadden, issued a statement in which he said that the progress of Australia’s defence programme had been discussed in the light of the latest information received. The position was such that he could assure the people of the Commonwealth that it was necessary that they should place the national interests first. He was sure that, as in the last war, Australians would face any crisis calmly.
