INQUEST INTO DEATH OF AIRMAN

(United Press Association) FOXTON, February 11. An inquest into the death of Leading Aircraftman K. Haase was held before a jury. Evidence was given by PilotAircraftman Holmes that he had been feeling run down for the fortnight before the crash and reported to the medical officer. On the way over from Blenheim to Ohakea he experienced air sickness, and when the navigator was taking the controls on the return trip he said he lost consciousness, coming to too late to avoid crashing into the river. The jury returned a verdict that Aircraftman Haase met his death by drowning and added a rider that, in view of Pilot-Aircraftman Holmes’s evidence, a more rigid test of pilots’ physical fitness should be imposed before pilots take machines into the air. After the inovest a service inquiry was held in camera.
