FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT DEERE PROMOTED

(United Press Association) WANGANUI, February 10. Flight-Lieutenant A. C. Deere, D.F.C. with bar, has been promoted to squadron leader, according to cabled advice received by his parents, Mr and Mrs T. J. Deere, Plymouth street, Wanganui. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in June for flying exploits in France, during which he shot down five planes. In August Squadron Leader Deere was awarded a bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross. On Friday night Squadron Leader Deere spoke on the Empire programme from Daventry. He has three brothers in the services, Brian Deere with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Middle East, James Deere in the Army and Kevin Deere in the Royal Navy.
