FINAL GAMES PLAYED YESTERDAY

A GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP TO MRS HOLMES The final matches of the Southland Croquet Association’s annual tournai ment were played on the Northend green yesterday in fine weather. Many close games were contested and the spectators were treated to some fine I Play. I The winner of the A grade open | championship was Mrs Holmes (Rugby I Park), who beat Mrs Metcalf (DunI edin) in the final. As a result of her win, Mrs Holmes will be the new holder of the Sports Trust Cup. Following are the detailed results: A GRADE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Final (best of three games): Mrs Holmes beat Mrs Metcalf 26-21, 26-18. Mrs Metcalf opened with a break of six with the blue ball. Mrs Holmes, hitting in a long roquet made a break of nine with the yellow, leaving her opponent a long roquet. Mrs Metcalf picked up and carried her blue ball to three back. In and out play followed, Mrs Holmes winning the first game 26-21. In the second game Mrs Metcalf opened with a break of 11 with the red and six with the yellow. Mrs Holmes hit in and made a break of 11. with the blue ball. Mrs Metcalf failed to pick up and Mrs Holmes carried on to win the second game, 26-18. B GRADE HANDICAP SINGLES Semi-finals: Mrs A. McKenzie (Georgetown) beat Mrs H. Albertson (Bluff), 26-19; Mrs Smart (Otautau) beat Mrs Middleton, 26-8. Final: Mrs Smart beat Mrs G. McKenzie, 26-11. B GRADE OPEN DOUBLES Final: Mrs Smart and Miss Campbell (Otautau) beat Mesdames Morrison and Blanch (Georgetown), 26-10. B GRADE HANDICAP DOUBLES Final: Mesdames Blanch and Morrison beat Mrs Smart and Miss Campbell, 26-1. B GRADE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Final, first life: Mrs H. Albertson (Bluff) beat Mrs E. C. Albertson (Bluff) 26-16. Semi-final, second life: Mrs Martin (Waihopai) beat Mrs H. Albertson, 26-24; Mrs Burns (Otautau) beat Mrs Furniss (Bluff), 26-21. Final, second life: Mrs Martin beat Mrs Burns, 26-3. Final: Mrs Martin beat Mrs Albertson 26-3, 26-15.
