CAMPING GROUND AT QUEENSTOWN
MOTORISTS’ CRITICISM
The facilities at the Queenstown Borough camping ground were criticized by members of the Automobile Association (Southland) at a general committee meeting last night. The condition of the camp at holiday times was described by Mr S. C. K. Smith as disgraceful. He knew of several motorists who had been camping in the ground and they were so disgusted with the conditions that they had no intention of returning .to Queenstown, he said. The camping ground was far from an asset to Queenstown. “The facilities at the ground are extremely poor and very few improvements have been carried out in the past few years,” said Mr F. E. R. Booth. “The sanitary conditions during the holidays are especially disgusting. A common complaint is the clouds of dust that drift on to the camping ground from the road leading to the other camp.” It was pointed out that the association had actually no control over the camping ground, but it was in the interest of the members to see that something was done. It was mentioned that a letter had been sent to the Automobile Association (Otago) and it was decided to await a reply.
