TRAINING WOMEN AS HERD-TESTERS
SHORTAGE OF OFFICERS Girls and young women are urgently needed to train as herd-testing officers to take the place of those men who have left on active service. Another training course for young women will begin at Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, on March 4. Application forms are available at the office of the secretary of the Southland provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union and full particulars about the course may be obtained from Mr G. R. Herron, Makarewa, West Plains R.D. It is estimated that about 40 more women herd-testers will be needed as many districts, particularly those in the South Island, are short of officers. About 12 Southland women have so far undergone the course. The last one was held near the end of 1940. Several of these women have been placed in positions in various parts of New Zealand.
