PETROL FOR PRIVATE USERS

(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 8. Mr M. A. Batt, chairman of the executive committee of the Automobile Association, Wellington, seen today about the references to petrol by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, when addressing the Master Grocers’ Federation at Auckland, said the North Island Motor Union had been in communication with Mr Sullivan for a clarification and Mr Sullivan had replied. The letter states: “Mr Sullivan was referring to savings to be achieved by a rationalization of daily deliveries in various fields of distribution by the commercial user and had not intended to cover the use of petrol by the private user. So far as his knowledge went nothing was contemplated at present with regard to any further cut in the ration allowed private owners.” A postscript, however, adds: “He can give no certain assurance that circumstances might not compel a reduction in the future of the private car ration.”
