DEFENCE CHIEFS TO COME SOUTH
INSPECTION VISIT THIS WEEK BLUFF AND CIVIC AIRPORT TO BE STUDIED The chiefs of the three New Zealand defence services will visit Invercargill and other Southland centres this week for an inspection of strategic points. An announcement to this effect was made on Saturday night by the Hon. Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, on his arrival in Invercargill from Wellington. Mr Hamilton said that representations had been made to the Government from Southland for greater provision for defence. In response to these requests the War Cabinet had decided that the defence chiefs should visit the province. The port of Bluff, the new Invercargill civic airport and other strategic points would be inspected. Before the arrival of the defence chiefs Mr Hamilton will consult with the Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. R. Martin) today about arrangements for the visit. The programme of inspections will be arranged so that the experts will be able to see as much as possible during their visit. It is understood that the three chiefs will not be in Southland simultaneously.
