ANNUAL CROQUET TOURNAMENT

INTERESTING MATCHES ON SATURDAY FIXTURE TO BE COMPLETED TODAY The Southland Croquet Association’s annual tournament was well advanced when play finished on Saturday and the fixture will be completed today. In the first life final of the A grade open championship Mrs Holmes (Rugby Park) beat Mrs Metcalfe (Dunedin) 26-23. Mrs Metcalfe turned the tables in the second life final, winning 26-11. These players will now meet in the best of three games to decide the winner of the championship. One of these games was played on Saturday, Mrs Holmes winning 26-23. Detailed results are as follows: A GRADE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Final of first life: Mrs Holmes beat Mrs Metcalfe, 26-23. Final of second life: Mrs Metcalfe beat Airs Holmes, 26-11. A GRADE HANDICAP SINGLES Final: Mrs Metcalfe beat Mrs Murray, 26-10. Mrs Metcalfe played very good croquet, making two breaks of nine. Mrs Murray, using her bisques, made a break of eight. She then missed a short roquet, letting Mrs Metcalfe in to finish the game 26-10. B GRADE OPEN First life, third round: Mrs H. Albertson beat Mrs A. McKenzie. 26-9; Mrs Blanch beat Mrs Morrison, 26-2. ! Semi-final: Mrs H. Albertson beat I Mrs Martin, 26-17. i Second life, second round: Mrs D. Wilson beat Mrs Hamilton. 26-24. Third round: Mrs H. Albertson beat Mrs Morrison. 26-19. B GRADE OPEN DOUBLES Third round: Mrs Smart and Miss Campbell beat Mesdames ' Macdonald I and' Clarke, 26-25; Mesdames Morrison I and Blanch beat Mesdames Hamilton | and McKenzie. 26-9. B GRADE HANDICAP SINGLES I Third round: Mrs A. McKenzie beat i Mrs Martin., 26-23; Mrs Middleton beat I Mrs Hamilton. 26-10; Mrs Smart beat Mrs Burns, 26-21. . Semi-final: Mrs A. McKenzie beat Mrs H. Albertson. 26-19. B GRADE HANDICAP DOUBLES Semi-final: Mrs Smart and Miss Campbell (Otautau) beat Mesdames Furniss and Newman (Bluff). 26-23. C GRADE OPEN Final: Mrs Trusler (Gore) beat Mrs Doyle (Bluff), 26-24. This game was very even. Both competitors played steady croquet, the more experienced player winning. C GRADE HANDICAP SINGLES Final: Mrs Doyle (Bluff). beat Mrs Geddes (Rugby Park). 26-17. DRAW FOR TODAY Following is today’s draw:— B grade open doubles. —Mrs Smart and Miss Campbell v.
