Subversion Charges

The hearing of charges of subversion against Herbert Henry Swann, aged 31, a carpenter, concluded in the Supreme Court at Auckland. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with publishing a subversive sticker bearing j the words: “No more troops for overseas. New Zealand comes first,” with ! having a number of these stickers in ; his possession and with having a j pamphlet entitled “Forward” with a | view to publishing the subversive t statements it contained. The accused | was found guilty on the first two counts and not guilty on the charge of having the pamphlet with a view to publishing the subversive statements it contained. The jury strongly recommended leniency. He was remanded for sentence. —Press Association.
