RESCUE STATION AT OHAI

j -— . .! A rescue station is to be built at Ohai ■ where all coal-miners will be required j to undergo a course of training in | rescue work. The contract has been - let to Mr C. R. Spencer, of Nightcaps, » and work on the building will be begun | within the next fortnight. The contract price is about £2400. The station, which will be situated opposite the Ohai Hall, will be built of concrete and is expected to be completed and equipped in about three months’ time. The Mines Department will appoint an instructor to teach the men the latest ; methods of dealing with outbreaks of fire and other mishaps in coal mines. All the men working in mines in the district will receive six months’ training at the station. There will be six rooms, one of which ' ] will be 30ft. by 22ft. It will be possible ] to pump poisonous gas into this room ; - while the men are undergoing their . training in gas masks under realistic £ conditions. S
