DISPLAY OF SOUTHERN LIGHTS A fine display of the aurora borealis could be seen from Bluff early yesterday morning. The whole of the southern sky was aglow with a faint orange colour and many streamers of a brighter colour shot into the heavens from behind a bank of clouds on the horizon. One of these beams passed across the new comet. OYSTER SEASON TO OPEN IN A WEEK A week today the 1941 oyster season will open. The work of overhauling and reconditioning the trawlers has been proceeding since last season and the Harbour Board’s slip has been rarely without an occupant since October 15 last, when the 1940 season closed. The Marine Department took samples from the various beds a short time ago and reports indicate that the quality this year will be well up to standard. PERSONAL Constable B. S. Parker, of the Bluff Police Force, is on leave and Constable D. Anderson, of Invercargill, is relieving at Bluff. Mr A. M. Wilson, postmaster at Bluff, has reurned from his annual leave.
