Committed For Trial

Herbert Hepworth, aged 73, a chemist, of Palmerston North, and Julia May Ambury, aged 50, married, of Wellington, were committed for trial on a charge of causing the death of a married woman by an unlawful act, thereby committing manslaughter, also on a charge of attempting to procure a miscarriage in respect to another woman. An unusual feature of the case was the presentation by the police of the first woman’s dying statement. Suggested to her by a hospital doctor with the object of trying to prevent other women getting into a similar predicament, she was told that she was dying and agreed to make the statement which she signed.—Press Association.
