PERSONAL

The Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, left Wellington last night for the South Island. The Minister will spend today in Christchurch where he will discuss with the wheat controller the position concerning labour for wheat farmers. The Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, will participate in this discussion. Mr Sullivan will proceed to Dunedin tomorrow, and on Monday and Tuesday he will inspect the secondary industries in that city Late on Tuesday afternoon Mr Sullivan will leave for Invercargill and on Wednesday he will inspect manufacturing enterprises in Invercargill as well as linen flax factories in Otautau and Winton. He will return to Dunedin on Thursday evening and travel to Christchurch the following day and to Wellington on Sunday.—Press Association. Mr J. A. Lee, M.P., leader of the Democratic Labour Party, and the Hon. W. E. Barnard, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who addressed a public meeting in the Victoria Concert Chamber last night, will leave Invercargill this morning for Dunedin.

Mr A. M. Wilson, Postmaster at Bluff, has resumed duty after his annual leave. Mr W. V. Eunson was met by members of the staff of Broad, Small Ltd., before his departure for Levin to train as a pilot in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. A presentation was made and good wishes were extended for a safe and quick return. Mr H. H. Cook, acting secretary and treasurer of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, has retired from the service of the board on superannuation. He recently underwent some operations and is now recovering.
