PATRIOTIC FUND EXPENDITURE
GOVERNMENT HAS NO JURISDICTION ADMINISTRATION COSTS NOT HIGH (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 5. The Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council has circularized zone secretaries denying rumours to the effect that the Government appropriates 25 per cent, of the money raised for patI riotic purposes and that the cost of administering the fund is 25 per cent, of the money collected. The rumours have been referred to the National Patriotic Fund Board, which states that all moneys are paid either into the National Patriotic Fund or the various provincial funds, and the Government has no jurisdiction in the expenditure. On the other hand, the Government meets from the Consolidated Fund the cost of salaries and the rent of the staff ! and offices of the National Board while I the cost of the railage of goods from one patriotic body to another is met I from the war expenses account. So far as the National Patriotic Fund is concerned, the cost of administration amounts to only 12 per cent, of the re- | ceipts. That of the provincial funds is ' somewhat higher though the exact figures cannot be given pending the re- i ceipt of balance-sheets, but the position i is being gone into and the question of i a public statement will receive consid- 1 eration when definite figures are available.
