BLUFF NEWS
SCHOOL EXCURSION The annual school excursion of the combined schools from the Dipton to Ryal Bush and also Heddon Bush and the Hedgehope district was held at Bluff yesterday. There were about 500 persons on the train which was considerably less than is usual, and is probably accounted for by the weather which was wet in those country districts in the morning. The day at Bluff was fine although a cold westerly wind was blowing and there were occasional showers. After lunch an impromptu sports programme for the children was conducted at Argyle Park under the direction of the various teachers. A stepping competition was won by Mrs W. Jamieson (women) and Mr A. W. Baird (men). Members of the Winton district Women’s Institutes also held their picnic at Argyle Park yesterday. PERSONAL At a special meeting of the Bluff Borough Council, Mr R. P. Cook of Invercargill, was appointed meter reader and caretaker of halls. There were 10 applications for the position.
