HOSTELS FOR GERMAN SOLDIERS
(British Official Wireless) (Received February 4, 11 p.m.) RUGBY, February 4. A German appeal for funds lor building hostels for German soldiers in Norway is remarked on by all correspondents of neutral newspapers in Berlin. According to Press messages from Zurich, the hostels are being erected throughout the country. Hitler has spent 1,000,000 marks on them, and public societies have subscribed a further 3,000,000 marks. More is to be raised by public collections. The goal aimed at is, in fact, 12,000,000 marks. In view of Hitler’s twice-repeated, solemn declaration that the war with Britain will be concluded this year, the erection of the hostels on such a costly scale and—by implication—of such durability, is considered evidence of Hitler’s intention not to withdraw the soldiers from Norway after the war. Alternatively, it may be that the Fuhrer envisages the possibility of a postponement of the victory celebrations.
